Education

It is my goal as the Oklahoma-Kansas CMAA Education Chair to reach across state borders and offer the best education for the times.  As the economy has made a downturn I want to make attending our quarterly meetings both fun and beneficial to all. 

For 2009 there has been an itinerary change.  All host clubs will be offering brunch to you and your guests.  We will conduct a chapter board meeting from 1pm-2pm on Sunday.  Our chapter meeting will begin at 2pm with chapter education beginning at 3pm.  Our host club will have dinner for us at 6pm.  Education will resume after breakfast at 8am and finish by noon so that you might be able to have lunch and get on the road or stay and play a round of golf if scheduled.  We hope that you enjoy this new format.

This year I have arranged educational programs that include our golf course superintendents, our front-line food and beverage managers, membership and marketing directors, and everyone in between.  We start the year off with an OSHA Workshop at Prairie Dunes Country Club in Hutchinson, KS with Alan Achatz on March 22^nd and 23^rd.  On April 5^th, Oklahoma City Golf and Country Club will host its Second Annual Wine Retreat with Matthew Citriglia, MS.  From Oklahoma State University’s Hotel and Restaurant Administration program, Dr. Bill Ryan, Phillippe Garmy, and Dr. Shelia Scott-Halsell with David Davis will be at the Oaks on May 3^rd and 4^th.  For a little summer break Wichita Country Club will be the host to our Annual Golf Tournament on July 13^th.  Mark your calendars for the Assistant Managers Conference in Washington D.C. September 24^th-27^th.  Our chapter education resumes on October 4^th and 5^th at Southern Hills as Bob Losyk presents Real World Solutions that Make a Difference.  The final quarterly meeting and officer instillation dinner will be held at Oklahoma City Golf and Country Club on November 8^th and 9^th with Rick Coyne’s Membership and Marketing workshop.  Last but not least mark your calendars for February 12^th-16^th and we hope to see everyone out in San Diego for World Conference and our Chapter Dinner!

I have been busy contacting speakers and other chapters about our education programs for 2010.  We are hoping to combine efforts with area chapters and bring in a big name speaker for a regional workshop.  Speakers that I have been in contact with are:  Gregg Patterson, Dr. Stephen Barth, and Dr. Bonnie Knutson. 

I am passionate about the club industry and hope that I can help lead this chapter into the future.  Please let me know what topics interest you most.  Thank you for electing me as your 2009 Education Chair!
